| CLUB FOUNDER |
Keith Ricketts
|
Keith started playing volleyball in 1978. In 1988 he started coaching a boy’s team and in 1991 he started East Cobb Stingers Volleyball Club with ONE team. (That became North Atlanta Volleyball Club just a few years later.) He has been CAP II certified since 1995 and has taken multiple coaching clinics over the years in order to always be learning and staying updated in his knowledge of the game. In addition, he has hosted several coaching clinics for high school coaches and offered several summer clinics for high school players in the area. The game of volleyball is his passion. He loves coaching and watching his girls when the light bulbs go off! In his many years as a Club Director, Keith has helped over 120 young ladies receive college scholarships. He believes in positive reinforcement and feedback, coaching his girls to never say “I can’t do it”… if they think they can, they will! Volleyball can be a frustrating sport because it takes lots and lots of touches on the ball to achieve a skill. Teaching the proper skills techniques is Keith’s forte; He wants the girls to be successful! He believes in working hard but also having fun along the way. He prides himself in teaching girls to be smart players, because if they know the game it will make them better players. He expects his teams to always exhibit good sportsmanship and have a quiet confidence. Two years ago, Keith was honored with an award by USA Volleyball for his years of service in developing grassroots volleyball in GA. |

Dennis Jocson |
Dennis started playing beach volleyball in his hometown of Pensacola, Florida in 1989. At the University of Florida, he continued to play for the Men’s Club team as a setter in the early 90’s. In 1996, he moved to Atlanta and has become one of the leaders in the Atlanta volleyball community. He is the owner/director of AirVorne Volleyball, LLC that hosts tournaments / leagues as well as outdoor sand clinics for kids. Dennis believes in coaching the basic fundamentals/skills of volleyball and teaching the game so that it makes sense to the players - no answers given just questions asked until the player can figure it out. “It takes a lot of hard work and dedication just like any pro sport. Especially for beach volleyball you don't have to be tall or as fast as other sports. You just have to have the skills.” -- Misty May. |

Craig's coaching experience however is extensive and for 14 years has coached football, basketball, baseball, and most recently JV Lacrosse. Craig has completed his IMPACT Certification. Although new to coaching volleyball, Craig's philosophy remains the same for volleyball as it has in previous coaching positions: teach fundamentals, positive re-enforcement, discipline, physical conditioning, and have a lot of FUN playing. X Cynthia Johnson—11 Black Assistant Looking at old photos of my mother playing volleyball for her hometown team in South America as a setter piqued my interest as a young girl. CJ was introduced to volleyball in high school and played in a league for two years. Since then, she has been involved in many club leagues throughout Atlanta for over 20 years. She has had fun pushing herself to become a better player. She loves playing with fun and dedicated players who always improve with every game. Within the last twelve years, CJ has focused more on sand and grass volleyball than indoor. CJ has played indoor for many of her younger years and won three consecutive times at the Southern Regional tournament. This allowed her to participate at Nationals with a free entrance fee while making it to Gold and Silver Brackets. This time-frame was a challenging learning experience for CJ, and the most exciting time of her youth. CJ has also played in large sand tournaments at Fudpuckers in Destin, Florida, and won tournaments in 2001 and 2007. CJ believes that keeping a positive attitude is what makes the sport fun and picking supportive teams with the same attitude has been more important than winning – but the result was success, when it wasn't really the goal. Helping others stay positive is how you make a team stay strong, passionate, and cohesive. CJ wants to bring the same things she's enjoyed to younger players, so that they can build friendships, have a great way of life, and win some games along the way. CJ has helped three of her nieces catch the volleyball bug. Nicole is captain and setter for her team, now playing in her freshman year at high school; Amanda has played right side and middle hitter for four years at her high school and she plans to continue in college, and my niece Josephine has been playing as libero and is becoming a solid defensive player. Becoming a coach is the logical next step in CJ's development as a person, and a way to give back to a new generation of young people. Volleyball hasn't just been an afternoon sport for me – it's been a major source of friendships and connection with other people. It's easy to list the benefits but it would be harder to imagine what would be missing without having played the game. She hopes to inspire new players to feel the same.

X Michael Davidson Michael grew up playing football, tennis, soccer, baseball, and basketball . However, basketball quickly became his first love and by the 8th grade he had given up the other sports to concentrate solely on it year-round. This included playing on multiple traveling all-star and year round AAU teams as well multi-year invitational 5-star and blue chip camps. As well, he has coached and refereed basketball from beginning players up thru high level club teams. Now, as a basketball player who has found a natural transition to the game of volleyball, these experiences provide a unique perspective into this sport which shares so many similarities. Michael's coaching philosophy is simple: bring intensity everyday-learn, adapt, get better- respect the game, your coach, teammates and yourself- love the game.
